One problem I’m having with Pedagogy of the Oppressed is that when Freire is talking about “decoding,” “thematic investigations” and “limit-situations,” there’s not a lot of concrete examples of how to put it into practice. He vaguely says something about using pictures on one page and follows it up a few pages later by describing a possible picture, but he doesn’t ever explicitly say how to go about decoding the picture and how that teaches anyone anything.
